Although Reiki has been around for thousands of years, there are still questions buzzing around at present, as to what it actually is. Besides sounding like something apt for gardening and slightly dangerous if left on the ground, it couldn't be further from the truth and has a range of health benefits to boot.

Reiki is a Japanese energetic modality for stress reduction and relaxation, which also promotes healing. Reiki treats the whole individual, including the mind, emotions, body, and spirit (subtle energy), creating numerous beneficial effects that include stress relief, inner peace and feelings of relaxation.

Rei (which means The Higher Power”) and Ki, which is ‘life force energy’, together make it “Spiritually guided life force energy”. It is administered by laying hands on the body in a particular sequence and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” (also known as Prana, Chi, Qi or 'Soul'), flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.

It is the living energy that sustains the life of cells, organs, tissue and blood. If a person's “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment actually feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.

Reiki has a positive effect on all forms of illness and negative conditions, including minor things like head/stomach aches, colds & flu, tension and anxiety. It also works well in conjunction with regular medical or psychological treatment as well as in the face of serious life threatening illnesses. It is effective in reducing or eliminating completely, the side effects of regular medical treatments including post-operative pain, chemotherapy and depression, as well as improving the healing rate and reducing hospital stay length.

Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including psychological care, surgery, prescribed pharmaceuticals and any other method of alternative care, enhancing their results. Although, if an individual has a medical or psychological condition, however, it is recommended that seeing a licensed health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki treatments, is of greater benefit.
